Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance

Tracy Grunwell, WNAA Regional Fundraising Manager, takes us through a day in the life of "Helimed 53 Alpha" and how it is kept airborne by the generosity of its supporters and the general public.

MKAS raised £1,246.91 at the recent Sywell Revival 2009 and this has now been sent to the WNAA.

Aviation Addiction In Two Scales
MKAS member Mike McEvoy is best known for his contributions to Scale Aircraft Modelling over many years, but he also had an RAF career as a Hunter pilot in the 1950s, and he took us on a hilarious voyage through his aviation career from both a professional as well as personal level.

Rebirth of A Kitten
An illustrated talk by Alan Hartfield on the renovation and operation of the sole remaining 1930's Dart Kitten G-AEXT. Alan is also an LAA kit-plane inspector & Tiger Moth flyer at Cambridge Flying Group and he spoke with passion about the wonderful aircraft that has been such a great part of his life for the last 25 years.

Preserving the Worlds Oldest Turbine Airliner - Whiskey Fox
Romer Adams, formerly of the Viscount Preservation Trust, took us through the pioneering project that saved the earliest surviving Viscount (G-ALWF) for display at Duxford. A terrific lecture, with some excellent video footage of the move from Liverpool-Speke to Duxford, some of it through the Northamptonshire/Bedfordshire area.

The History of Aerial Reconnaissance and Photographic Interpretation
Wing Commander Mike Mockford OBE is Chairman of the Medmenham Collection, which covers the history of military aerial photographic interpretation from the beginnings of aerial reconnaissance up to the present day. An excellent lecture on a fascinating subject.

RAF Germany and the Middle East in the 1950s and 1960s
Peter Sawyer flew Meteors, Vampires and Venoms in Germany, then Venoms and Hunters in Aden and Kenya, where as he put it "if you were flying higher than the grass, you were too high!!. This was the first part of his story of his time in Germany, and with a superb set of photographs to boot. We look forward to welcoming back Peter for the rest of his wonderful story.

Commercial Spaceflight And The Safety Challenge
Andy Quinn of Saturn SMS Ltd, is a safety consultant to the Virgin Galactic company, who plan to be the first to put tourists into space. Meeting the challenges to doing so safely is the key to success and Andy gave us an excellent lecture explaining the many challenges ahead.
