Dr Ken Ramsden BSc MSc PhD returns with part 2 of his lecture, this time concentrating on the history of aircraft engine development to novel concepts and materials currently under review at Cranfield University.

The Gun in Air to Air Combat

Wg Cdr Chris Reid (ret'd) traces the history of the gun in the air from c1912 to the present day. The guns have changed little in principle but have greatly increased their firepower. Tactics and practical illustrations of the problems of fighting with the gun are explored.

 Investigating Aircraft Accidents

Wg Cdr Graham Perry (ret’d) illustrates the challenges of aircraft accident investigation work at the sharp end – the actual searching of wreckage and interviewing of witnesses.  This is a subject on which Graham used to instruct officers at RAF Cranwell.

 One of the Few

John Shipman presents a lecture based on his book ‘One of the Few’ which describes the experiences of his father, Ted Shipman, in 41 Squadron during the Battle of Britain, and also those of Luftwaffe pilot Hans Kettling.
